Christmas Movies filmed in and around Mystic

The Holiday season is here! There is so much to do during this exciting time- from Christmas parades and tree lighting ceremonies, to holiday parties and family gatherings.  But one of the nicest ways to enjoy the season is to settle in for the evening with a warm drink and watch a holiday movie. Christmas movies just have a way of making you happy. Did you know that some Christmas movies have been filmed right here in town? Mystic really is an idyllic spot for a holiday movie, and these three really captured the magic of our small town. You’ll want to add these to your “must watch” list this December!

A Very Nutty Christmas

A Very Nutty Christmas, a Lifetime movie starring Melissa Joan Hart and Barry Watson, is a comedy about a baker who falls in love with a Nutcracker who has come to life. Kate Holiday (Hart) is a hardworking bakery owner who has more orders than she has time to fill this holiday season. When her boyfriend suddenly breaks up with her, any shred of Christmas joy she was hanging onto disappears. Then, a handsome soldier, who may or may not be the Nutcracker Prince from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, shows up. Filmed in May of 2018, this was actually the first time Olde Mistick Village was used as a set for a movie! Among the outdoor village locations, much of the filming took place at Jealous Monk and Lee & Company.

The Holiday Fixup

The Holiday Fixup, another Lifetime movie, stars Jana Kramer and Ryan McPartlin as exes who reunite to renovate an Inn. Sam (Kramer), the designer behind a popular home renovation show, returns to her hometown during the holidays to help fix up the Bell Harbor Inn. She gets paired with Coop (McPartlin) as her lead contractor, but he’s the guy who broke her heart. Filming for the movie took place during the summer of 2021. The bulk of the shooting took place in Mystic, both at the Mystic Seaport Museum and at Yetter Road Tree Farm. Other scenes were shot in New London and Norwich.

Holiday for Heroes

Hallmark Christmas movie Holiday for Heroes stars Marc Blucas and Melissa Claire Egan as friends who only knew each other through letters before finally meeting in real life. After a year’s worth of letters exchanged between Audrey Brown (Egan) and soldier Matt Evans (Blucas), their worlds collide for the first time off the page. Will the spirit of the season bring Matt and Audrey’s love beyond their letters? Filming took place in February 2019 in several locations, including Waterford, Niantic, and Mystic. Many scenes were shot in Stonington Borough, on Water Street, and at Noah’s Restaurant.

Twelve Days of Christmas Eve

The newest Christmas release from Hallmark is The 12 Days of Christmas Eve, which stars Kelsy Grammer and Spencer Grammer.  Santa gives Brian Conway (Grammer), a successful businessman, 12 chances to re-do the day of his car accident so he can fix his damaged relationships with loved ones and experience the true meaning of Christmas. The movie was filmed entirely in southeastern Connecticut. Many scenes were shot at the Bradford House and at Norm’s Diner in Groton. Mohegan Sun Casino, Keiths’ Appliances, and Long Island Sound were also location shots. Scenes in Mystic were filmed around downtown.

So grab your hot cocoa and gingerbread cookies, and settle in for a warm and cozy night of movies in Mystic!
