The Holiday Season in Mystic, Connecticut
We all know that Mystic is a top five summer tourist destination, but Mystic at Christmastime is truly magical. West Main Street is always beautifully decorated for the holidays, with lights, garland, and red bows adorning the businesses downtown. There are so many events taking place throughout town to get you in the holiday spirit! Here are some amazing holiday events taking place in Mystic this season!
Holiday Lights Spectacular
The Holiday Lights Spectacular returns to Olde Mistick Village! The largest holiday light display in southern New England is FREE to the public and will run from November 18 through the end of January, 2024. Over a half-million lights decorate the Olde Mystic Village shops and restaurants for families and holiday enthusiasts to enjoy. Stroll around the Village with your leashed pet even after stores and restaurants are closed. Extended holiday hours will also start on Saturday, November 18th. Olde Mistick Village will be open until 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, November 18th through December 23rd.
Home for the Holidays
This year at the Mystic Aquarium, experience a holiday lights event like no other: Home for the Holidays. Wave at the whales as you begin your holiday stroll through the outdoor and indoor habitats, taking in the sights and sounds of your favorite holiday themes. From the snowy Arctic Coast to the magical frozen tunnel of icicles, you will enjoy the magic of the holidays while getting access to the main indoor aquarium gallery, shark touch habitat, Arctic Coast beluga habitat, and newly-renovated courtyard, decked with dancing lights choreographed with your favorite holiday movie tunes.
There will be refreshments available for purchase, countless photo opportunities, and even some surprise special guests!
Lobster Trap Tree
Our neighbor’s in Stonington have brought back the Stonington Lobster Trap Tree! This amazing work of art will be on display from November 25, 2023 – January 7, 2024. A visit to the Lobster Trap tree is a magical experience and provides for awesome photo opportunities. The artistic and architectural masterpiece is situated on a grassy area at the Stonington town dock, paying homage to the town’s renowned fishing industry. Whether you view this spectacle during the day or at night, the beautiful landmark provides an eclectic buoy exhibit that is a flawless balance between stunning professionally painted works and those created by local children.
On Saturday, December 2nd, Olde Mistick Village is holding their annual Holiday Carnival, from 12pm to 4pm!! There will be carolers in the village, along with a brass band playing holiday favorites, and Santa on the green to meet the pups. And what would the carnival be without Santa’s Workshop Children’s Gift Store?! Santa will be setting up shop in the Meetinghouse as a gift store for children to buy gifts for their family and friends. Don’t miss this special holiday celebration!
Holiday Stroll and Luminaria
On Tuesday, December 5th from 5pm-9pm downtown Mystic will hold a Holiday Stroll & Luminaria. Stroll the festive streets of Historic Downtown Mystic and listen to the carolers rejoice in the holiday spirit as Santa makes his way through the hustle and bustle! Merchants will keep their shops open late so everyone can get a head start on their holiday shopping while enjoying hot cider, cookies and other goodies in the stores!
Lantern Light Village
Mystic Seaport Museum’s Lantern Light Village is an outdoor, self-guided experience for the whole family, designed to show the differences between modern and 19th century holiday seasons. Beginning December 8th, take a journey through time as you seamlessly transition between the holidays you experience today and the holidays of the past. Enjoy festive lighting displays, live music, horse and carriage rides, crackling fires, a visit to St. Nicholas, and more, including holiday themed stories, crafts, and games! Festival of Lights
On December 8th, experience the magic of the holiday season at Olde Mistick Village for their annual Festival of Lights. Come stroll through walkways brilliantly lit by thousands of luminaries. With live entertainment and complimentary treats in the Meeting House, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.
Meet Santa at OMV
Calling all families! Visit Olde Mistick Village this December 9th or 10th and have your children meet the one and only Santa! Mr. Claus will be making a special appearance at the Village’s Meeting House from 12:30-4pm each day on the weekend to meet all the local good girls and boys! Don’t miss out on this wonderful experience and the chance to find great gifts at a one-of-a-kind shopping plaza for the holiday season.
