Thicker Than Water: Testimony from the front lines of the plastic crisis (Thurs., Sept. 21)
Plastic is everywhere—it’s in our food containers, packaging, clothing, electronics, building materials, glasses, and toothbrushes…. It’s lightweight, versatile, and so cheap that we often forget how much it permeates our lives. But our relationship with plastic is not a healthy one, and our worldwide reliance on this material is polluting the Earth and is harming all of its inhabitants—including us.
Join author and photojournalist Erica Cirino for a discussion and book signing of her award-winning book Thicker Than Water, which dives into the facts about plastic pollution to help us arrive at real solutions to this urgent global crisis. Along the way, you’ll hear stories from the front lines including plastic pollution hotspots like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and “Cancer Alley” to learn about who is being harmed, who is to blame, and what we must do now to create a more just and livable world for everyone. After the presentation, learn more about the relationship between human activity and the ocean in Alexis Rockman: Oceanus.
